I love the harmonic flow of Alaska Airlines for so many reasons. I love what they stand for. I love the integrity of the company. I love the character of the employees, and the way they own up to mistakes and work together to compromise when there are disagreements. I love that when there are misunderstandings, or challenges with the labor unions or airports or FAA, they communicate instead of hide.

And on a personal level, I need to say the executive team at Alaska is second to none. They encourage eachother and want the best for eachother, because they know that they each being a unique skill set to the team. They don’t stab other airlines in the back just to get ahead, they won’t play dirty and then lie about it to the public. They hold onto their values and they support eachother. They don’t roll eachother under the bus and manipulate one another to get to the top. They stay true to their vision-even when they disagree, they are committed to working it out, because their greater purpose is for the good of the company.

When you’re one in purpose, from the Executive Officers to the mechanics to grounds workers, to gate agents to reservationists, you know full well that it takes the unique sound of each individual instrument to come together to create a beautiful piece of music together.

Speaking of music, recently Alaska Air’s most loyal customers were treated to a private concert by Macklemore, (AKA Ben H.) a native Seattle native rapper, social justice activist, inspirational recovery tribe member, and multi- talented performer.

Because he’s made this public I can also share that my favorite thing about him is he’s been open with his struggles with his sobriety over the course of his music career, in fact calling that struggle “the hardest moment” of his career.

“Recovery is something I’m very proud of, I’m a part of that community, and I believe it should be celebrated,” Macklemore told Sober Nation in 2018.

Alaska Airlines and Ben H. Both know that when we put the oxygen mask on ourselves first, it allows us to have the strength to care of others, and celebrate the community of both our individuality and our combined strength. If we take care of ourselves, serve others well and stay loyal, there’s great potential for the manifestation of amazing things! And that’s when the magic happens. Or as Ben puts it: “Songs write themselves.”
